Importing Contact Files into GrowthMap™

Importing files into the GrowthMap™ system is a simple process if you follow the guidelines and steps outlined below. This guide will help ensure a smooth and successful import experience.

Important Notes:

  • Only Admins have the permission to import files into the system.
  • Use the Sample File for importing or updating contacts: Sample File.
  • New contact imports can be reverted, but updates to existing contacts cannot be reversed.

Prepare Your Data

Supported File Types

  • Ensure your file is in .csv format.

File Preparation Requirements

  • Sheet: Only one sheet is allowed in the file.
  • Size: File size must be smaller than 30 MB.
  • Headers: Include a header row with at least one column matching a standard or custom field in the system.
    • All custom fields should be created in GrowthMap™ before starting your first import.

Please note that only new contacts import can be reverted but updating contacts is not a reversible action

Steps to Import Your File

Step 1: Access the Import Option

  • Navigate to the Contacts section.
  • On the top row with multiple actions, click on “Import Contacts”.

Step 2: Choose the Type of Import

  • Decide whether to import:
    • Contacts only, or
    • Both Contacts and Opportunities

Step 3: Upload Your File

  • Select the file to be imported.
  • Click on “Choose how to import contacts” and specify:
    • Create new contacts,
    • Update existing contacts, or
    • Perform both create and update actions.

Step 4: Configure De-duplication Preference

  • De-duplication settings will help match contacts for creating or updating records.

Map Your Fields

  • Ensure each column in your file is correctly mapped to a corresponding field in the system.
  • Adjust mappings as necessary.

Special Mapping Considerations:
  • Empty Values: Checking the “Don’t update Empty Values” box ensures that fields with empty values in the file will not overwrite existing data.
  • Unmapped Fields: You can skip importing specific fields by leaving them unmapped.
    • At the bottom of the screen, check the box to proceed.

Review and Confirm

  • Data Preview: Verify that the preview matches your expectations.
  • Accept Disclaimer: Check the box to accept the disclaimer and start the import process.
  • Optional Tags: Add tags to the corresponding contacts for related opportunities.

Monitor the Import

  • Progress: Track the import progress under Opportunities > Bulk Actions.

  • Errors & Warnings:
    • Errors: Occur when mandatory fields are invalid, causing the row to fail.
    • Warnings: Occur for optional fields where the row is imported, but specific fields are not updated.
  • Click “Show Stats” to view import statistics, errors, and warnings.
