How to add Taxes in GrowthMap

The Tax Settings feature in your CRM streamlines tax management by allowing businesses to easily add, configure, and apply multiple tax rates. This simplifies compliance with regional tax laws, reduces manual errors, and improves invoicing accuracy. By automating and organizing tax processes, the feature saves time, supports informed financial decisions, and enhances overall operational efficiency.

How to use the Tax Settings feature in Payments?

Step 1: Creating and Adding Taxes

Navigate to Payments > Settings> Taxes > Click 'Add Tax'

Fill out the popup information: tax name, rate, optional description, tax ID number and tax Agency, if applicable. Click 'Add' and Your tax will now appear in the list of Taxes.

Step 2: Managing and Using Your Taxes

Attaching a Tax Rate to Products

  • Navigate to Payments > Products > Click on three-dot menu (⋮) next to the desired product, then select Edit.

  • While adding or editing a product, check the box labeled ‘Attach Tax Rates’.

  • Select one or more applicable tax rates from the dropdown.

  • Click the ‘+’ icon to add a new tax rate on the fly.
  • These tax rates are automatically applied at checkout (excluding invoices).

Applying Tax Rates to Invoices

  1. Navigate to: Payments > Invoices.
  2. While creating or editing an invoice: Click “Add Tax” next to the applicable product.

  3. In the Add Taxes popup: Check the box for each tax rate you want to apply.

  4. Click Save. The selected tax(es) will be calculated and reflected in the invoice.

Deleting a Tax Rate

To delete a tax rate, click the Delete icon next to the tax in the list.

Manual tax rates (except for Invoices) work as a fallback if Auto taxes are also enabled. To use only manual tax rates in certain jurisdictions, first disable auto tax rates OR update the nexus addresses for which you want to use manual tax rate instead of auto taxes. Refer below example.

If you want to use automatic taxes for all states in the United States except for Texas, you can remove Texas from the list of Nexus addresses in your Automatic taxes settings. If you want to use only manual taxes for all your customers, fully disable automatic taxes.
